Elliot and Carla struggle to maintain a friendship. It's becoming apparent that whilst Elliot is smart enough she tends to put her foot in her mouth a lot when speaking. This happened when speaking to Carla twice, the second time whilst Elliot was trying to apologise for the first. The result is alienation from most of the hospital for Elliot, especially Carla and the other nurses. Elliot hangs in though and with the help of Turk and J.D she and Carla make up.

J.D tries to win over Dr. Cox. After talking to Carla he finds out Dr. Cox may be lonely and takes it upon himself to fix it by going over to Cox's house after work. Cox is his normal sarcastic self, however J.D manages to get into the apartment as Dr. Cox looks over his foot, which was injured when Cox slammed the door in J.D's face when he first came around. J.D explains further why he called and Cox seems to relent. This changes though as he continues and reveals he was just stringing J.D along. A group of friends then call to watch the game with Cox and J.D is thrown out.

Turk decides to act and attempt to get a date with Carla. This proves difficult and is complicated by her and Elliot’s falling out, which Turk tries to fix. Eventually Carla agrees to go out with Turk.
